QIAMS hosted a session with Scientist Dr.T.V.Venkateshwaran, Chief Editor of “India Science Wire” an online science and technology news feature service published by the Department of Science and Technology on the importance of writing good science articles. He highlighted on various scientific inventions and motivated young minds to participate more in development of science and technology. Students from various colleges participated in this event which is an initiative of the Vigyan Prasar.

'What makes a gentleman' a topic worth discussing on women's day and it couldn't have been made much better than the inspiring talks of Dr Suresh Kumar and Ms. Jayanthi Anand. Million thanks to other guests of the day Mr. Senthil, Ms Prema Sadasivam and other faculty members from New College and Kumara Rani Meena Muthaiya College of Arts and Science who graced the occasion.

QIAMS conducted skill development workshop in Adobe Illustrator. Students of various age groups from different schools and colleges participated in the event. Few staff members from other colleges also learnt how to design a logo. It was a great day which enhanced fruitful learning.

The participants of photography and essay competition held in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi were honoured at QIAMS today. There were more than 750 entries from institutions all over Tamil Nadu. It was also a wonderful experience listening to people who have made successful imprints in media. Mr. Gunasekaran, chief editor of News 18, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Kombai S Anwar, international award winning documentary film maker, Dr. Sathik, former Vice Chancellor of University of Madras and Mr. Peer Mohamed, founder of ippodhu.com graced the occasion. The students were honoured with cash prize and mementos.

Within hours of a case being registered against senior journalist KarthikAI Selvan and the management of Puthiya Thalaimurai, an emergency meeting was convened by Mr. N. Ram at QIAMS. It was after this event that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, invited many Tamil journalists, including Mr N Ram, to Delhi for discussions. No more re-registration.

At the QIAMS Academy, a meeting was held on under N. Ram. Many leading journalists participated. Mr. Ravi (The Hindu), Soumiya Anbumani, (Managing Director - Makkal TV), Karthikai Chelvan, Pereira (Managing Director - Kalaignar TV), Arun Ram (Times of India - Chennai Editor) and many more. The meeting, which was attended by Swaminathan (CEO of Satyam TV), senior journalists Jawahar, Kumaresan and office bearers of several media associations, was co-chaired by Internet media founder Peer Muhammad. The meeting passed a resolution calling for the withdrawal of all recent false allegations against journalists and the formation of the “Alliance for Media Freedom” to protect the journalists.

The graduation ceremony of the first batch of QIAMS students from different strems took place on Saturday. 26 students received their certificates. Judge Akbar Ali (Retd) gave the keynote address, congratulating the students and wishing them success in their journalistic endeavour of creating a just society. Mr Thillai of News & gave the special address. Senthil Vel of Puthiya Thalaimurai and Dr. Sathik congratulated the graduating students. Many other diginitaries also spoke, appreciating the graduating students who have found placement in Thanthi TV, Kalaingar TV, Malai Murasu, Vasanth TV, Kerala TV கலைஞர் டிவி, மாலைமுரசு, வசந்த் டிவி, கேரள மீடியா, உள்ளிட்ட பல நிறுவனங்களில் பணியில் சேர்ந்துள்ளனர். இன்னும் இரண்டு மாதங்களில் இன்னும் 50க்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் பயிற்சி நிறைவு பெறுவார்கள்.

இன்று கயாம்ஸ் மாணவர்களிடம் மூத்த பத்திரிகையாளரும் மொழிபெயர்ப்பாளருமான சுரா கலந்துரையாடினார். சார்லி சாப்ளின் உருவாக்கிய படங்கள் எப்படி அழியாத காவியமாக உலக சினிமாவில் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளன என்று விளக்கினார். இந்தியாவின் புகழ்பெற்ற இயக்குநர் சத்யஜித்ரேவின் படங்கள் எவ்வாறு கவித்துவமான ஓவியமாக இருக்கும் என்று விவரித்தார். வைக்கம் பஷீர் எழுதிய நாவலின் சம்பவங்களை உணர்ச்சிபூர்வமாக கண்முன் கொண்டுவந்து நிறுத்தினார். தனது 40 ஆண்டு அனுபவங்களை மாணவர்களோடு அவர் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டதும் மாணவர்கள் அவரோடு உரையாடியதும் கயாம்ஸ்-ல் நெகிழ்வான தருணமாக இருந்தது.

QIAMS hosted students from the Communication Department of Women's Christian College who had worked on the deplorable Manual Scavenging through their Public Relations campaign "SHAME". Students delivered a powerful message on how shameful it is on the part of the society to just remain silent spectators of this inhumane act.

Several of Chennai’s top journalists, politicians, academicians and religious personalities made their way to The Quaide Milleth Academy of Media Studies (QIAMS) campus to attend the “Open House and Iftar” function organised by the institution. The function held one day prior to the 121st birthday of Quaide Milleth Mohamed Ismail (the founder-president of the Indian Union Muslim League), symbolically marked the beginning of the first academic year of the media studies institution.
